You definitely want to give several business cards to EVERYONE you interact with that you make a good impression with. You never know who will send you referrals and business cards are cheap.
If you are contracted with Settlers Life, once you have made your 1st sale, go on their website and order your free business cards. They are nice professional looking cards and they are branded with Settlers logos.
For non branded cards, you need to decide what to call yourself. The simplest thing is
to call yourself the John Smith Agency (if your name is John Smith.)
The late Frank Stasney had an excellent idea. His cards just said Frank Stasney with Your Insurance Agent, under his name as his title. I think that is an excellent choice.
I feel strongly that you need to have a professional looking photo of yourself on your cards. YOU are the brand you are selling. You don’t have to be pretty but you DO have to have a professional business photo. No drivers license photos.
If you have your photo, pay the extra for the full color cards. Slick finish.
Tell what you do on your cards. Some examples would be:
- Focused on Senior Benefits
- Offering more choices with Medicare Supplements, life insurance for Seniors and cancer insurance
Stay away from illegal phrases on your cards. Never say words like cheapest rates, lowest, most, best, we beat every, etc. those words are all illegal and considered misleading.
- Magnets! magnets! Magnets! I can’t stress enough to buy some magnets. Go to Office Depot or Staples and buy the business card sized magnets that you peel the paper off and stick them on your card. Voila! Instant magnet card. These are a KEY to building a referral machine. Everyone who LOVES you needs one of these on their refrigerator.
- Your phone number needs to be the largest print on your cards.
- You can get cards at office depot, Staples or many places online such as Vista Print
- Also while at the Office store, buy the Avery labels that are around the 2″X 3.5″ size and recreate most of your business card info on the label templet in Word. Print these out and stick them on EVERY brochure you ever give out.
